About the test

Is a paternity test 100% reliable?

Paternity confirmation reaches an accuracy of more than 99.99%. Paternity exclusion is 100% certain. We analyse every sample against 16 to 26 DNA markers (STR loci) — the exact number depends on the test variant you choose. The more markers analysed, the higher the statistical certainty, especially in situations where the tested individuals share another biological relationship.

Does the child's mother need to know about the test?

No. The mother's consent or physical participation is not required for an anonymous (informative) test. The analysis is fully valid when comparing only the father's and child's samples. Your privacy is our priority — the entire test process is strictly confidential.

Can the test be done during pregnancy?

We normally perform tests after the child is born. Prenatal tests (from the mother's blood or amniotic fluid) do exist, but they are very costly or carry some risk to the foetus, and we carry them out only in exceptional circumstances. We always recommend waiting until after birth — a sample can be collected within the first few days of the newborn's life, even while still in the maternity ward.

What is the difference between an anonymous and a court-admissible test?

An anonymous (informative) test is intended for your personal peace of mind. You collect the samples at home yourself and the identity of the individuals is not verified — therefore the result cannot be presented in court. A court expert test requires the personal presence and identity verification of all tested individuals by one of our staff members or an accredited court-appointed expert. This result is fully legally admissible in paternity proceedings.

What does Dual-Check™ mean?

Dual-Check™ is our unique double quality control. Your DNA sample is analysed independently twice — by two separate laboratory teams using different instruments. Both results must match before a report is issued. This eliminates any risk of human or laboratory error. This feature is included in the DNA PROFI variant.

Sample collection

How does sample collection work?

Sample collection is simple, painless and anyone can do it. Using the special swab brush included in the collection kit, you perform a 10-second buccal swab of the inner cheek. You then seal the sample in the provided envelope and send it to the laboratory. The full procedure is described in detail in the enclosed instructions — with both images and text.

Can a sample other than a buccal swab be used?

Yes. If a standard buccal swab is not possible, we can also extract DNA from alternative samples: hair with roots (plucked, not cut), a used toothbrush, used chewing gum, blood traces on fabric or paper, cigarette butts, and other biological material. Please note that these samples incur an additional charge for manual DNA extraction and may require a longer processing time.

Tip: Always store alternative samples in a paper envelope, never in a plastic bag — moisture accelerates DNA degradation.
Do we all need to be present at the same time for sample collection?

No. Samples can be collected at different times and in different locations — for example, the father in Prague and the child at grandparents' home in another city. The only requirement is that all samples arrive at the laboratory at the same time. The laboratory will wait until it has received the complete set of samples before starting the analysis.

What if the sample collection does not go well?

There is no need to worry — every one of our clients has successfully completed their buccal swab so far. In the unlikely event that the laboratory determines your sample is insufficient (too little DNA or contamination), we will inform you immediately and suggest a solution. Clients with the DNA PROFI variant automatically receive a free replacement test.

Results and legal aspects

How long does analysis take?

Standard processing time is 5–10 business days from the receipt of all samples at the laboratory. Express processing (2–3 business days) is available for an additional fee. The DNA PROFI variant includes priority processing within the standard timeframe at no extra charge.

How will I receive my results?

Results are sent securely by email as a digitally signed PDF document. On request, they can also be collected in person at our collection centre in Prague 1, or sent by registered post. The report includes a clear interpretation, the values of each individual DNA marker, and the final Paternity Index (PI) or probability of paternity (W).

Can the result be used in court?

Anonymous tests (DNA BASIC, DNA PRO Lite) are informative — they cannot be presented in court or to authorities, because the identity of the tested individuals has not been verified. For legal proceedings concerning the establishment or denial of paternity, you need a court expert test or a verified DNA PROFI test with identity verification by one of our staff members or a court-appointed expert.

Is my personal data safe?

Absolutely. We operate in full compliance with GDPR. Your personal data, samples and results are protected by strong encryption and a strict internal protocol. Only authorised laboratory staff have access to your data. After the result has been issued, physical samples are securely destroyed. We never share your data with third parties.

Ordering and payment

How do I order a test?

You can order a test in three ways: online via the order form on our website (fastest option), by phone on our free line 800 888 362 (Mon–Fri 9:00 AM–4:00 PM), or in person at our collection centre at Politických vězňů 911/8, Prague 1 — in this case we recommend booking an appointment in advance.

Is the kit delivered discreetly?

Yes. The collection kit is sent in a plain white envelope with no DNAtest.cz logo or company name. Your bank statement will show a neutral company name, Advanced Genetics, s.r.o. The exception is registered post, where the law requires the sender to be identified — we will notify you in advance if this applies.

What payment options are available?

We accept bank transfer (advance payment based on a proforma invoice), online card payment, and cash payment when visiting our collection centre in person. For the DNA PROFI variant, instalment payment is available upon request — please contact us for an individual arrangement.

Can the collection kit be stored and used later?

Yes. An unused collection kit is stable and can be used after extended storage — the swab brushes and other materials do not expire quickly. We do however recommend carrying out the swab as soon as possible and sending the samples promptly after collection. Do not store collected samples for more than 48 hours before dispatch.
